The German avant-garde composer Hans Otte died Tuesday in Bremen, Germany.
At some point in November, I downloaded Amiata Records’ New Music Masters compilation. Originally released over a decade ago, the new isn’t quite so new, but the mastery is still there. With two outstanding pieces by Steve Reich bookending the compilation, I downloaded the rest hoping to find something equally impressive. Upon first listen, I was instantly blown away by an excerpt of Otte’s Wassermannmusik (aquarian music). The complete piece is available on the 1995 Aquarian Music record and is outstanding.
